Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: state of oncological and functional results

The early detection of prostate cancer leads to the performance of a radical prostatectomy with less morbidity and the chance for a full recovery of quality of life. The current literature lacks randomized trials comparing the different surgical techniques of radical prostatectomy. The advantage of the laparoscopic approach is limited to the short-term parameters such as blood loss and transfusion rates, but no oncological efficacy and functional outcomes can be drawn.

Abstract
The early detection of prostate cancer leads to the performance of a radical prostatectomy with less morbidity and the chance for a full recovery of quality of life.
The current literature lacks randomized trials comparing the different surgical techniques of radical prostatectomy. The advantage of the laparoscopic approach is limited to the short-term parameters such as blood loss and transfusion rates, but no oncological efficacy and functional outcomes can be drawn.
