Radical prostatectomy: bladder neck preservation

The approach to the bladder neck (BN) is a critical step of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. The value of preserving the bladder neck during radical prostatectomy is still debated, even if there is some evidence for an earlier return to continence in the cases where it is preserved. An accurate dissection of the bladder neck and its preservation could improve the early return to continence. The use of the laparoscopic approach allows to perform a good dissection and sphincter sparing due to a better vision and meticulous hemostasis.
