Rome is the "eternal city" with a long history, and "all roads lead to Rome" as the saying goes. It is an ideal place to look carefully into hysterectomy. Hysterectomy has come a long way and has been revisited many times. Just like Rome!

Hysterectomies were initiated in the 19th century and were commonly attributed to Charles Clay. After a long learning curve, the open technique was stabilized by Henri Mondor. Lots of surgeons improved the technique and developed the vaginal route. We had to wait until 1988 to observe the start of the shift towards the laparoscopic route undertaken by Harry Reich. Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a young technique and its interest is still debated. The objectives of this meeting are manifold: - to move towards the standard technique of laparoscopic hysterectomy in a stepwise fashion, to describe its advantages and drawbacks, to understand its possible complications and the ways to prevent them, and finally to consider the influence of alternative routes and techniques. All this will be achieved during plenary interactive sessions, discussions, and hands-on practice workshops.

At the end of these 2 days, participants will acquire the know-how required to safely develop their skills in performing laparoscopic hysterectomies for the sake of patients and of the healthcare community.
