This lecture outlines general considerations in vaginal prolapse surgery, namely history of vaginal prolapse surgery, preoperative preparation, anesthesia, patient and team set-up and installation, asepsis, instrumentation, sutures, postoperative care. The new concepts in vaginal surgery are also demonstrated; in anatomy, the tension-free concept is shown, the use of mesh and potential consequences, the global repair concept, new access and new considerations about colpotomy, vaginal resection, and systematic hysterectomy.
