On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 4th International Winners Meeting, we thank you for your participation in this Meeting dedicated to Hysterectomy which was held at Hotel NH Leonardo Da Vinci, Rome on June 8, 9 and 10, 2017.

The Meeting was a success, attracting delegates, speakers and sponsors from almost 50 different countries and provided great intellectual and social interaction for the participants.

Rome is the "eternal city" with a long history and "all roads lead to Rome" as the saying goes. It was the ideal place to look carefully into hysterectomy. Hysterectomy has come a long way and has been revisited many times. Just like Rome!

Hysterectomies were initiated in the 19th century and were commonly attributed to Charles Clay. After a long learning curve, the open technique was stabilized by Henri Mondor. Lots of surgeons improved the technique and developed the vaginal route. We had to wait until 1988 to observe the start of the shift towards the laparoscopic route undertaken by Harry Reich. Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a young technique and its interest is still debated. The objectives of this meeting are manifold: - to move towards the standard technique of laparoscopic hysterectomy in a stepwise fashion, to describe its advantages and drawbacks, to understand its possible complications and the ways to prevent them, and finally to consider the influence of alternative routes and techniques. All this will be achieved during plenary interactive sessions, discussions, and hands-on practice workshops.

For your information, a Winners Day will take place on Wednesday 18 October 2017 in the 26th Annual ESGE Congress to be held in Antalya (Turkey) from October18 to 21, 2016. The program will be available soon on the Congress website
